The green bike story
Each green bike has been diverted from the waste stream and has a unique story that has once again brought it onto the streets of Canmore. Many were rescued from the dump and rebuilt by volunteers, while others were donated by community members. In recognition of the diverse history of our bikes, each one has a name and we will periodically feature the story of one of the green bikes below, so stay posted!
What are all those green bikes doing in town?
Take a bike when you need one, leave it for others when you are done.
The green bike share program is composed of a series of stations around Canmore, called hubs. There are currently three hubs, with plans to expand in the future. Hubs are unmanned and available 24 hours a day.
Each hub consists of a bike rack with green, refurbished bikes. The bikes are locked to the rack with a lock containing a universal code that you will receive upon membership. The code will be changed periodically and you will be informed via email or phone (if requested).
Choose the bike that best suits you and be on your way. When you are done with the bike, return it to the hub nearest you for someone else to use.
We ask that you try and return your green bike within 4-6 hours of borrowing it. 6 hours should be seen as the maximum use time of a green bike so that the bikes can continuously be available for members to use. This is the SHARING part of the project and will ensure that bikes are free for others to use, rather than laying idle at an off hub location. We appreciate your cooperation!
